California Council: Vision and Purpose

Through the leadership of the Alzheimer’s Association, California families will drive policy decisions that impact persons with dementia, their families and caregivers.

The California Council of the Alzheimer’s Association is affiliated with the national Alzheimer’s Association and is the vehicle for California chapters to advance statewide public policy issues. The Council identifies and influences public policy issues that demonstrate a direct, positive link to people with Alzheimer’s disease and their families.  In doing so, the Council embraces seven guiding principles:

  • Access - We advocate for equal, unfettered access to services by individuals with Alzheimer’s disease regardless of economic status, cultural diversity or geographic location.
  • Collaboration - We strive internally, and in partnership with interested stakeholders, to increase the availability and improve the quality of Alzheimer’s programs and services.
  • Commitment - We are dedicated to continually assessing and advocating for the current and future needs of persons with dementia throughout the state.
  • Ethics - We strive for the highest ethical standards in all our decisions, relationships and actions.
  • Leadership - We position the Association as the premier source of Alzheimer’s information by cultivating expert volunteers, staff and medical advisors.
  • Quality - We advocate for quality care and treatment of persons with Alzheimer’s disease and their family members and caregivers.
  • Respect - We promote the individuality of persons with Alzheimer’s disease by supporting their dignity, rights and choices.

National Mission Statement

To eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
